Gilberto Santa Rosa, born on August 21, 1962, in Santurce, Puerto Rico, is a legendarysalsa singer, songwriter, and bandleader known as “El Caballero de la Salsa.” With a career spanning over fourdecades, he has earned a reputation for elegance, vocal clarity, and a deeprespect for Afro-Caribbean musical traditions.
He began performing professionally in his teens and became amember of Willie Rosario’s orchestra, where he gained experience as a leadvocalist. In 1986, Santa Rosa launched his solo career with the album Good Vibrations, quickly making a namefor himself in the world of salsa romántica — a smoother, more romantic styleof salsa that appealed to a broad audience.
Throughout his career, Gilberto has released over 30 albums,including hits such as “ConteoRegresivo,” “Perdóname,” “Qué Manera de Quererte,” “Vivir Sin Ella,” and “Me Volvieron a Hablar de Ella.” Hismusic strikes a balance between polished arrangements and traditionalimprovisation, earning him the affection of both mainstream and hardcore salsafans.
