Kany Garcia

Kany García, born Encarnita García De Jesús on September 25, 1982, in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, is a celebrated singer-songwriter known for her emotive lyrics and genre-blending style. She studied music at the Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico and first gained public attention as a contestant on the reality show Objetivo Fama in 2004. Though an accident forced her to leave the competition early, it didn’t stop her from launching a successful career.

Kany made her official debut in 2007 with the album Cualquier Día, which won critical acclaim and marked her arrival as a fresh voice in Latin pop and romantic ballads. That album produced hits like “Hoy Ya Me Voy” and “Esta Soledad”, and won her two Latin Grammys in 2008 — Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Album.

Over the years, Kany has become one of Puerto Rico’s most respected musical storytellers. She has released multiple award-winning albums, including Boleto de Entrada, Soy Yo, Contra el Viento, and El Amor Que Merecemos. Her lyrics explore themes of love, heartbreak, identity, and empowerment, and she’s known for championing LGBTQ+ rights, gender equality, and social justice.

Kany has won six Latin Grammy Awards and received multiple nominations for the Grammy and Billboard Latin Music Awards. She has also collaborated with top artists like Alejandro Sanz, Residente, Mon Laferte, and Carla Morrison.
